I'll let the GT guys get into the "how much" & "how to" of switching, but the reason for the switch is that there's a few extra ponys (hp) to squeeze out of the engine with the plastic manifold. Appearently the plastic not only weighs less, but doesn't get hot (no heat soak) so cooler air reaches the cylinders..and cooler air = more HP.

On a turbo that's what you get - Bob Stockum tested the metal turbo intake, and found it flowed better than the N/A intake. He put a metal turbo intake on an N/A engine, and it helped (dunno how much). Since the plastic turbo intake flows better still, and also has a better balance of flow to all cylinders, it would seem better yet, but it doesn't match right up on a N/A engine - some brackets are needed, I understand (same goes for the Metal intake).

If you have a n/a cruiser you already have a thermoplastic manifold. To convert it to work on the N/A is a pain and it really offers no advantage. For n/a cruisers I'd suggest adapting the aluminum manifold. Its a 10hp boost for the turbo cars changing from a metal to plastic intake because of better flow and more equal delivery of air to each cylinder.
