Default AIR INTAKE SYSTEM

I BOUGHT FOR MY "PT" A NEW AIR INTAKE SYSTEM FROM RACING ACCESSORIES,THAT I SAW IN E-BAY,IT WAS CHEAP,LESS THAN $10.00?THE SHIPPING WAS HIGH,OVER $19.00 !!! SO I TOOK A CHANCE BECAUSE IT WAS SO CHEAP.WELL I WAS SURPRISE,IT WENT ON EASY AND WORKS GREAT,SOUNDS GOOD WHEN YOU GOOSE IT.

Yea, there's lots of them going for just a few dollars on eBay and they make up the difference with the shippping cost. I'm pretty sure you don't get the washable filters with the cheap ones, so when you need a replacement filter, it will cost as much as buying a whole new one.

A lot of owners don't like them because they draw in just as much hot air from the engine as cool air from the hole in the wheelwell, and cooler air makes more power. If you don't care about the couple extra HP (like me) then the short air-intake is OK as it draws in more air than the OEM filter and it does sound good, as you stated.

The only problem I have found as NO ONE makes a setup for the 2006's at this time. Neither K7N or AiRaid.

I had a AiRaid for my 2002 and because of the air box change, it would NOT work.[xx(]

Ya i have been wanting a CAI kit for my pt also, and i was drawn to that same auctions, but i remembered old saying, "you get what you pay for" so that is what has stopped me from buying it. I was thinking of going with a K&N kit but the cost is just too high for my mom who really could care less.......

You may be able to still get this one:

The filter can be cleaned (cleaning kit is $15).

As to that hot air/cold air - I feel that once you're moving, it's less of a factor - there'll be less difference in temps.

GoldPT, take a look at Injen Intakes. Almost identical to K&N except that the intake pipe is aluminum and it's at about half the price. The filter is a K&N.

Once you get moving air mixed with the hot engine air is still a lot hotter than if you were drawing only cold air. Look at how hot your engine is when you stop and turn it off. Moving air is not cooling it off hardly at all. A hot air intake will give you maybe a couple hp but you will lose some torque. With the stock airbox and a K&N type drop in filter you might gain a couple of hp and gain some torque. That's a no brainer. But, if you like the full race look and the sound and don't care about losing some torque then go with the hot air intake. They do look cool.

I've been wanting to get a Good Hood with the scoop that drops air right on top of the filter. I expect that will help counter the hot air in the engine bay.
