Default A/C Fan Relay?

Ok, I have searched and searched here, have read about this same problem many times, but didn't take it all in, cause I didn't think I would need it.

My cooling fan kicks on and off while running the AC constantly, doesn't stay on or off, runs 2 seconds off, 2 seconds on, 2 seconds off, constantly while running the AC at idle, why?

If anyone might know, please lend me a hand.

Thanks

Colby,

There's a circuit in your A/C system that monitors the pressure. When your A/C is first turned on there's a serge of pressure and the system says it's OK, and it's supposed to turn on the fan. Then the sensor see's it's a little low, so it shuts the compressor and fan off. But you still have the controls set for A/C so it comes back on again, and the cycle repeats. Bottom line, I'm pretty sure your low in R134 (or whatever Chrysler uses in the A/C system), so just have it checked and topped off.

P.S. Have them put some dye in the system also as you might have a leak. The dye (RED or another color) will show up where the leak is.

P.S.S. There's a lot of places that do free A/C pressure checks, look around in the ads.

Ah, geez, just what I needed.

Well, thanks for the info. I will have to have someone take a look at it. I will see what they find out for me. Thanks

The fan of the A/C complressor? If it's the A/C, then I agree with Crewzin..
If it's the cooling fan, then something's screwy there - the fan should stay on when you turn on A/C.

That's what I was trying to say Don, but if Colby's system is low in refrigerant, then the sensor would turn off the A/C because he didn't have enough pressure, and since the A/C went off, I would think the fan would go off at the same time. [:I] Then when the A/C turns itself back on because the controls are set, then both the compressor and the fan would come on...cycle over and over again.

I could be wrong about the fan, but I'm sure the compressor would go on and off.

It doesn't feel like the compressor however, but the fan that kicks on to cool the engine while at idle. Doesn't reach the same while driving without the A/C on.

Still have not had the chance to get the A/C refrigerant checked out yet.

If you are talking about the fan mounted in the engine compartment, behind the radiator cycling on and off when the AC is on.... don't worry too much about it.

The radiator fan cycles on and off based on the temperature of the radiator. It is only really needed when stopped or in slow moving traffic, as at highway speed you get plenty of airflow.

Watch the temperature gauge... if it is not overheating, don't worry about the radiator fan.

Well, ya I see your point. I'm not used to it doing that, and especially this time of year. Its cooler then normal.
