Default SuperCharging

I have an '02 Pt 45,000 Red - - Love it. But it needs more juice!! Non turbo of course!! I saw an ad in Moss Motors catalog for a Jackson Racing "Bolt on" Super charger. The unit is made by Eaton which I know is pretty reputable and I was also told that Jackson Racing is good also. It costs around $3200 so I want to be sure about this before I buy!! Will it hurt my car??!! Meaning will it tear the engine, transmission, CV joints, etc up. It comes with a fuel management card and it claims to be safe for normal driving - - the nice part is, it will add about 30- 40hp to my PT Making it what it should be. any input would be nice!! Thanks!!!

For the price, I'd highly recommend looking into the hahn turbo kits. There's two different stages so you can pick and choose which one you want. 3200 bucks seems like a lot for just 30-40 horsepower. You can get a lot more out of a turbo kit than you can with the superchargers. The one thing to remember about superchargers is that they're always making boost as long as the engine is running which adds a bit more stress to the engine/driveterain than a turbocharger will.

A have a supercharger on my Marauder and love it. One thing about a supercharger is that there is no lag. Here is a good article on superchargers. http://musclemustangfastfords.com/tech/0411mm_super/

Agreed. Hahn is the only way to go if you have a n/a PT. A supercharged PT is still slow as he!! compared to a turboed one. A supercharger is great on a V8, but not a little 4 cyl.

Yep with super chargers you have to have power to make power. That's why they work good on large V6s and V8s. Basically a super charger draws on the motor like adding a second A/C unit and having both A/C units running at the same time. That is a lot on a 4 cyl motor.

I have the J.R. Supercharger, don't waste your money. If I had to do it all over again, I would have bought the Hahn Turbo Kit with the stage 3 upgrtade. My J.R. Supercharger is okay, but I haven't really notice any huge difference before and after. I'm at 220hp but it doesn't feel like it.

This may be a late reponse to your question, but, I love my Hahn Turbo stage 2. I have just put on a boost controller and am in the process of upgrading fuel system to run higher boost. Turbo is great. I have gotten used to the lag and now it is not even noticable. Check out my page or email for more info.

Thanks guys for your input - - I think I'll save my pennies for a turbo kit after the warranty runs out!! I'll have to make a lot of drinks for that!! Hahn Turbo sounds great and not to bad to install I hope - - what does that do to compression on N/A head? I remember 2.2 chryslers needed new heads for turbos - - is this till the case?? if so, more money and time.

The Hahn is a bolt-on kit, no head change needed. As to your original questions, the auto, as we all know, is not the best. Also, for the turbo, Chrysler added stronger rods and oil squirters to underside of pistons, among other changes, so don't go nuts with high boost. Keep boost moderate and you should be okay - there are lots of the Hahn kits out there and folks are pleased.
