AirRaid is a kit that you remove the stock air box.

K & N filter (from what I understand) uses the stock air box.

AirRaid sounds like it has more power because it uses no silencers, but in my 02 improved milage from 3-5 mpg.

Airaid uses the bottom of the factory box. They provide you with a three sided metal piece that goes on top of the factory box. The metal piece has a seal on top to somewhat seal against the hood. The Airaid has a cone filter. For a lot less money ($30-$35) you can get the K&N drop in filter which will provide the same 2-3 hp gain. With the Airaid you will hear more noise and some people mistakenly translate this into more power. 2-3 hp is nothing you can even feel. The K&N drop in will give you not as much noise and will save you money so you can spend it on other mods.....Sorry, but don't believe in more mpg claims. No way is a better breathing filter going to give you more mpg on a computer controlled car. I've had three PT's with both intake ('01 PT) and drop in filter (both the '03 and '04 PT's) and there is no more mpg to be had. A very sad myth.

I had an AirAid on my '02 and I found it improved the throttle response. When you gave it gas from a stop, the AirAid made the car take off quicker.
Keep your eyes open and looks at Forum classifieds- people selling their PTs often sell off parts - a used AirAid can be cleaned and is as good as new....

Airaid is more of a mod than the K & N which is just a filter swap.
One thing I like about my Airaid box is when coupled with the Good Hood will give your car the ram air effect.

I'm hoping to get even more performance when I get the hood.

Must have been an automatic. They are famous for being slow between 1st and 2nd gears. A lull. The K&N drop in solved that problem on the '01 and the '04.

Yeah, it was an auto, but I'm talking of the initial response - 1st gear.

Anyone looking for an AirAid - there's one now:

Mine is an auto, and with the AirAid, it does pick up really well from a standing start. It feels about as nimble as the V6 Firebird I had at the lower speeds. Once I get up to about 45 mph or so, the "Flying Brick" effect occurs and she kinda bogs down. The only thing to fix that is to either get a turbo, or keep her clean and shiny so the air can pass over the car smoothly.
