Default Hahn Turbo systems, anyone tried them?

I have heard good things about the Hahn Turbo system. Their web site claims 60HP with out the intercooler and 90 with. The price on the site is about $3200 bucks with the intercooler. This is still less expensive than the supercharger I see in Moss Motors. Although they did just drop the price a whole bunch. I just want more power and no top speed limiter. I hate that thing!!!

A fair amount of guys are running them. If you plan on going with the intercooler and other turbo toys (hard pipes, turbo timer, etc) you need to beef up the internals (pistons and rods). If you've got the auto trans, you should think about beefing that up too. Haven't heard of any problems with them.

What makes you think you can get rid of the top speed limiter?

Kenny Bell (the speed shop) advertises the reprograming of the PT's PCM for top performance, fuel system remapping and removal of the top speed limiter. Problem is... if you take your car into a Chrysler dealership for service, they always check to see if you have the latest software version in your PCM. In doing this, they reflash the PCM and you loose everything Kenny Bell shop did. I remember it costs around 300 bucks for the service. I think I read about it in the PT Cruiser magazine.

"Does the OPTIMIZER ll™ or SWITCH CHIP® remove my speed limiter? Absolutely not! All manufacturers have good reason(s) for the speed limiter. Removal can jeopardize vehicle safety and/or engine or drivetrain reliability. For example, a driveshaft that spins faster than designed can oscillate, break and seriously damage the vehicle. We will not go there."

Right from the Kenne Bell web page. Speed limiter not removed.

Why do you want to remove your limiter?? You have no buisness going that fast any ways unless you're doing it on a track.

I admit, one time I took mine up the limiter and the car was terrible. Felt very light, almost a bit twitchy, espicially in the rear. Didn't feel really solid at all, and I wouldn't want to go any faster then that in a Pt Cruiser. They're just not made for that, they're made to be a good practical "cruiser", not for autobahn-like driving. Removing the speed limiter, espically with the intent to go past that limit on a public road in our cars, is just downright dumb.

I've heard of that. The limiter is there because the PT is very unstable at those high speeds. I think the drag coefficient of the PT is .41. (Those in the know please verify!) So for us, we should not "Drive it like you stole it," but "Drive it like a Cruiser." [?] From what I've seen and heard, we can get these puppies pretty fast already. The limiter is there to keep us safe.

The limiter is there to keep 98% of the driving public from killing themselves. Anyone who has had high speed drivers training as well as drives daily on OEM high speed test tracks (I have a dream job) and has modified their vehicle to be stable at speed should have no problems operating a vehicle beyond the limiters artificially installed into our cars. If you are afraid of speed then do not drive fast, simply put. But, if you are more than a basic driver, have a clear and open road and a very good radar detector, enjoy the performance you paid for or installed. My PT is more than stable at 115 (limiter time) and still has nearly 1900 RPM to go. Driving fast is not dumb, but an expression of our love of the automobile, of being an American. God Bless America!!!

Take it to 125 and the aerodynamics of the car no longer keep that rear end secured, and the factory wing is there for LOOKS only. Hope you have done some body modification if you're going past 115. It's also usually not a good idea to keep the engine at 4500+RPMs for a lengthy amount of time. Have fun though while the engine lasts.
