Default Transmission downshift problem

Whenever our 2001 PT, 2.4 L, 72000 miles, comes to a quick stop with the AC on it wants to keep moving forward and the transmission clunks. The dealer fixed this once before by resetting codes with a hand held instrument but now says before they will reset codes as before it needs the transmission serviced...this was done about 12000 miles ago by my trusted transmission service company and when I called them they said the dealer is trying to get more money out of me.(dealer quoted $380 to flush, replace filters etc.) Any ideas what is happening or how this can be solved?

They can't force you to do what's already been done. Tell them to only reset the codes. If they refuse report them to the Chrysler rep and go to a different dealer.

One other thought....the transmission service company suggested I disconnect the battery for about 10 minutes then reconnect it. This will reset the codes to a default status and should solve the problem. Is this a viable solution? Thanks....Floyd Harris

I dont think it's computer related... But do that...

What i was told it this... Unhook the negitive battery terminal, and step on the brake petal 3 or 4 times.. wait 5 mins and re hook it. That should clear out any fault codes. However, it their is something truly wrong. It may be something mecanical.. I dont think that a flush and filter will fix it. I think it's the transmission itself, not the torque converter.
