Default STRANGE NOISE WHEN STARTING>>>

[:I]My PT gives a hiss or kind of puff from the engine area when starting.Almost sounds like a air starter leak.I origionally thought it was a squeak from belt but very different,, any ideas from others with possible same situation in the past. Car runs fine. I even thought it almost sounded like a compression leak but who knows. Ill await your opinion before I take it in.Thanks MJB[8)]

Check that the black plastic/rubber intake hose is clamped tight, and air cleaner box is clamped down. I'm guessing intake noise.

In my experience, if a belt's been slipping, it gets a glaze on it and it's best to replace it. Hope you have a permanent cure in your case.
As to the TDi - I doubt 45 mpg - and look at diesel prices - in NJ, diesel costs more than high test, so you BETTER get a LOT better mileage to just break even.
