Default noise from frontend

Have a few symptoms. One a popping noise that I can feel in the wheel while turning left while at slow speeds. Also if I quikly accelerate and turn the wheel same direction. Along with that I am hearing what sounds like a rubbing noise (similar to mud tires) at any speed. Can slightly feel it in the wheel but goes away when I'm taking a curve to I think the left, haven't driven it in two weeks. I can also hear a faint grinding noise from the passenger side whith very slight pressure to the break. I rotated the tires to see if it was a front tire and noticed my passenger tire was warn in the middle and inner inside aspect of the factory tires. I have had no drag or pulling to one side that I've felt. It is lowered but allignment is suppost to be correct. Anyone have a clue, say in a search something similar but not getting all of it. CV for maybe the popping but shouldn't that continue to get worse and pop more than just once at a spacific spot?

SOme have lost wheel bearings - that would be a rubbing or groaning sound, but I don't think a popping sound.
I'd get another estimate - $350 for a wheel bearing sounds high.

I'm getting the same problem with the tyre noise, not the other problem.

It sounds like grinding or bad tyre slap and it's pretty loud at anything over 40mph.

The only way to get rid of it is to veer to the left or brake hard. I was thinking it might have something to do with the suspension as it does seem to go whenever force is put on the front right tyre.

The front tyres are reasonably new but they are Goodyear. Treads are ok but I did notice a couple of cracks on the side. The older tyres on the back are much further worn down and due to be replaced, so going to be expensive to replace all four. I need to change the alloys too due to air leaking from rusting.

The car itself is a 2002 2.2 CRD with 90K on the clock. Not a bad mover but not getting much more than 40mpg.

Welcome to the forum.
Where ar you? UK?
Jack car up and see if there is "play" when you grasp the wheel - not the sttering wheel, the right drive wheel - that's test for wheel bearing.
Look at the drive axles - are the rubber boots torn?

Hi,

Yes, I'm in the UK, I stay in Fife, driving through to Glasgow everyday so noise is pressing concern.

Will check the wheel out tomorrow. Seems like a lot of folk had problem with bearings.

thanks

Rod

For an update if anybody has the same problem, it was the front wheel bearings causing the noise.

I've had both front hub bearings replaced which sorted the problem out. Car's well quiet in comparison now.

Wasn't cheap though at about 160GBP per side, mechanic had a bit of trouble with the first bearing but didn't take so long 2nd time.

Noticed the play when I wobbled the wheels by hand. Didn't need to jack the car up. Can't feel them wobbling now.

I've read the make's prone to the bearings wearing as it's a heavy front wheel drive. Muckle mercedes engine doesn't help.

Changed the alloys too to sort the air leakage out, got a set of Fox R3's which don't look so bad. Been an expensive couple of months.

Cheers
