OK, so the 06 has that dumb electric trunk latch,
and a bad manual tranny.

Sigh.

Guess I'll just hang onto my 02 for a few more years.

Hi Im new on this Forum - great to have so many brains out there to pick
Ive got a 202 PT Woody and ony 45K miles and the Tranny packd up - dealer says no oil pressure in Torque Convertor - wants $4000.- for reconditioned. Warranty expired
What would interest me is this Tranny a major problem with the PT
Do you think it would be worth talking to Chrysler direct
Thanks for any input
Andy

If it is an automatic then yes they are a problem and it won't do any good to go to Chrysler as they don't give a crap about them or you after you buy them.
My tranny went also in my 02 and I had it completely rebuilt and it was no were near $4000, so I would look around and check out some other places.
Chrysler has some problems but they don't like to stand up and admit it or do anything about them, and what gets me is they just keep using the same defective parts over and over..
Other than that I love my PT.....

Heres the bottom line...

Since I bought my PT in September 2006, I have taken it into the dealership three times for a clattering noise coming from the driver's side of the engine (same side tranny is). The noise is only present in cold temperatures and the noise goes away either when you depress the clutch, or when the vehicle reaches full operating temperature.

1ST Visit - dealer replaced clutch and bearing assembly - did not fix.

2ND Visit - dealer replaced input bearing - did not fix.

3RD Visit (yesterday) - dealer contacted engineering in Windsor, ON (Canadian tech centre). Engineering stated they are aware of the problem, but at this time there is currently no remedy for the condition. Apparantly, this is a common problem and attempts at replacing the transmission have resulted in the same noise. Engineering has confirmed the problem to be in the tranny itself, but they have no fix.

UPDATE!!!

The tranny in the 2006 m/y is a "world transmission" according to the service mananger at my local dealer. He himself has stated this noise is not normal. He said DCX Engineering stated the problem lies with a rattling gear synchro (ring) between 2nd the 3rd gear when no load is present. At this point nobody knows if this will affect the longevity of the transmission.

Sounds a lot like your problem thegoldpt......what were your symptoms?
Well my transmission was only hard to shift and would grind. There was no ratteling noise. What they need to do is drop in a new transmission and see if that fixes it
