Default Latest on the transmission

Well, the dealer today found this issue with my transmission. A snap ring on the syncros broke. I have no idea how or why but all I know is they are going to fix it under warrenty. After driving it 4 times they finally found the problem. So it may come down to dropping in a whole new transmisson. Anyway, I guess both transmissions are a weak point in the car. Anyway, I will be glad to have it back here in the next couple of days.

It's nice that it's covered by your warranty. Good luck.

Dude that sucks. But hey you may get a new tranny, that's good.

I would ask if they decide to keep the existing in there if it is a frequent problem and if it may occur again. I would demand a new one if any doubt. [|)]

Haven't read of other manuals dying - you must just be lucky!

Don't feel like an idiot. Probably 100+ to 1 in tranny failures. Auto tranny by far is the worst tranny. [xx(]

Check out my signature for my vehicle specs...

Heres the bottom line...

Since I bought my PT in September 2006, I have taken it into the dealership three times for a clattering noise coming from the driver's side of the engine (same side tranny is). The noise is only present in cold temperatures and the noise goes away either when you depress the clutch, or when the vehicle reaches full operating temperature.

1ST Visit - dealer replaced clutch and bearing assembly - did not fix.

2ND Visit - dealer replaced input bearing - did not fix.

3RD Visit (yesterday) - dealer contacted engineering in Windsor, ON (Canadian tech centre). Engineering stated they are aware of the problem, but at this time there is currently no remedy for the condition. Apparantly, this is a common problem and attempts at replacing the transmission have resulted in the same noise. Engineering has confirmed the problem to be in the tranny itself, but they have no fix.

UPDATE!!!

The tranny in the 2006 m/y is a "world transmission" according to the service mananger at my local dealer. He himself has stated this noise is not normal. He said DCX Engineering stated the problem lies with a rattling gear synchro (ring) between 2nd the 3rd gear when no load is present. At this point nobody knows if this will affect the longevity of the transmission.

Sounds a lot like your problem thegoldpt......what were your symptoms?
