Default water condensation under oil cap

I just had a 2006 PT Cruiser checked by a mechanic before I buy it. There was water condensation under oil cap and I understand this could be from short trips in cold weather - which would be the case here. I love the car and want to buy it, but I am worried that the creamy-yellow-brown goo under cap is indicative of some major problem - like a crack or leak somewhere. The mechanic said "maybe" there could be coolant in the oil because it tasted alittle sweet, but he wasn't certain. The car has 2,700 miles and is still under warranty, but I've heard horror stories, in general, about warranty repairs. I am taking the car to another mechanic on Monday for a more thorough check, but would like advice/feedback from anyone who has experienced this problem.
The car runs really well and doesn't seem to have any problems outside of this.

Welcome and good luck, you are doing the right thing for your peace of mind by having a second opinion.[8)]

I dont mean to be a smartass...but your mechanic said the oil "tasted sweet".Does he normally taste oil?I have been working on cars as a hobby for over 18 years and never once felt like tasting oil ...lol.Good luck with the car.If it has under 36,000 miles it should still be under warranty.I have a 2006 and i love the car.

First of all Welcome!

As for the moisture on the underside of the oil fill cap, that's normal for winter driving and short trips. The temp changes causes the moisture to collect high in the engine. Pull the oil dip stick and if you see "foam" on it then I would be concerned about a coolant leak.

Agree. If the dipstick doesn't show clear oil - if it's milky - could be a head gasket leak.
What does the coolant look like?

I was watching TWo Guys Garage this week and they mentioned this condition and they said it was from a short trip driver. They didn't really say how to fix or was it harmful, but I was holding my 4mnth old grandson I was kind of buzy.
