Default door locks locking/unlocking on their own!

I have found numerous reports of this problem on the Internet, but not one solution to it1

My wife's 2004 Cruiser began exhibiting this problem at about 60,000 miles--doors lock and unlock while driving or while parked/not running, which makes it impossible for her to leave anything in the car as it may be unlocked when she returns to it.

We've temporarily pulled fuse 3 to disable the door locks, but need a permanant fix and we don't want to pay the dealer $65.00 and hour to guess what's causing it!!!

I am about to "shotgun" the doorlock module in an attempt to clear the problem....intermittents are almost always hard to find....

Any input greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Gary

The equipment that controls the doors is called the RKEM (Remote Keyless Entry Module) and is located in the center console above the air vents. It's a good chance that module has gone haywire. I've heard of a few owners that had to have it replaced.

Talisman,
What part of the country are you from?
I have had the problem and it was caused by a heavy rain then temps dropped like a rock and moisture got into the switches in the door and/or hatch key cylinders and shorted them out causing the locks to go crazy! The dealer replaced the (2) door and (1) hatch key cylinder switches under warranty. Never had the problem again.

tpscruiser,

HMMMMM! We live in Roseburg, Oregon and, now that you mention it, the problem did begin when the rains began and the temp dropped. I'll let you know it that's it.

Thanks for the input.

Crewzin,

Thanks for the input. I have the manual (on CD)and expect to receive OBDII software for my laptop, which includes enhanced diagnostics for Chrysler products around mid-March. It will allow me to "exercise" the locks, etc. through the system while looking at error codes. Since the factory warranty is run out, except for the extended drivetrain warranty, I am now the mechanic on the Cruiser.

I will update the post when I find the cause...

Gary

This may seem odd but I've had some strange things go on when the tilt wheel is in the down position. It goes away when I lift the wheel. Just a thought. [:I]

Y'know, it's stuff like this that makes me glad to be a part of this forum. Mine just did the scary-possessed-lock thing, and my first thought was to look here. Thanks guys!
