Default 2005 PT With a Worn Clutch

I have not posted very often but this issue really has me upset. I was moving at about 40 MPH and the vehicle appeared to have blown the clutch (5-spd manual). The dealership confirmed today that I need a new clutch at the cost of $950. From the title you can see that it's a 2005 PT Cruiser (base model not a GT) with only 11,500 miles. I've driven a standard shift every day for the last 25 years and have never had to replace a clutch on any of my vehicles. Some I've put over 100,000 miles on. Also, I am the only driver of this vehicle and am very conservative in my driving. I know the dealership is not going to do anything to help me out but what can I expect from Chrysler? Any comments would be approciated.

Sorry for the misspelling. The last line should read: Any comments would be appreciated?

Shouldn't a 2005 with 11,500 miles still under warranty.

The owners manual says 12 months or 12,000 miles on the clutch. The car is over a year old. They consider the clutch a wearable item just like brakes.

Agree.
I haven't heard of problems with 5-speed clutches. If dealer/Chrysler won't give you a BIG break on it, I'd have the car towed from dealer and take it to an independent mechanic - ought to be less than $950...

I'm probably going to have the dealer fix it. By the time I pay for the tow, the diagnostic fees and pay to have the clutch replaced at another garage, I'll probably be at the same price. Plus if I have another garage fix it, my chances of Chrysler re-imbursing me for the repair have more then likely diminished as well. I have notified Chrysler, now I just have to wait for their response.

Unfortunately I didn't but the PT at this dealership but I have bought other Chrysler products there. One of which I still own (2000 Chrysler Voyager) that I have serviced there regularly. This was the nearest Chrysler Dealership from where I had to have the car towed. I have probably bought at least three cars at this dealership. Needless to say I don't think I will be buying anymore there.
