I think if you use Mobil 1 you have nothing to worry about.
I had a '92 Dodge Spirit I bought new, always used Mobil 1 in it.
At about 150,000 miles or so, it began to run like crap. Took it to my mechanic, and he explained that a valve guide had worked loose. He had the head on a workbench, an the top where the camshaft goes was all shiny - I said, "wow, what did you use to clean it up so well?" He said, "Nothing. That's how it was."
The engine was still strong on that car at 195,000 miles when the auto stoppped shifting and I decided not to push my luck.
You won't get crud buildup with synthetic oil.

By the way, I've heard of dumping kerosene in the oil before a change, too - I wouldn't do that, either.

Kerosene? Well I guess if you want a rolling bomb. I would imagine kerosene’s ignition point to be much lower then the engines temp would be.

All I can say is ask a true mechanic this question.

Here is somebody who has heard of it:

Ray: ...what old-timers used to do with kerosene. They used to run a mixture of oil and kerosene into the engine to try to break up the gums and varnishes. But they did it with the engine running. And if they were lucky, they'd shut off the engine just before the kerosene completely croaked the engine. My brother used to do this with the car parked right outside the junkyard gates. That way, if his timing was off, he could just push the car in.
