I have a Dream Cruiser I. Two weeks ago, my temperature gauge went all the way into the red zone and my warning came on. I was about 5 miles from home so I called my husband. He filled up the radiator and said I was good to go. I got 20 miles down the road and the same thing happened. I had to be towed to the dealer. I waited at the dealer for about 3 hours and they said the only thing they could find wrong was the antifreeze was half empty and they filled it up. They said every thing was ok. The next day I set out on my trip again, got 20 miles from home and the car overheated AGAIN! It had to be towed back to the dealer again. They have had it ever since. They put a new thermostat on, and some other things, but they said that as soon as they drove it twenty miles it overheated. They decided to put a new engine in it. That 's what they told my husband last Thursday. The engine was supposed to be in Monday. I called Wednesday and they had just gotten the new engine. I called today and they said they got a raw(?) head and they needed one put together so they sent it back to the factory. They said they hoped to have my PT fixed by next Friday. I have had to make 2 long trips out of town since they have had my car and I've had to drive my Mother's truck. Does anyone have any insight into what's wrong with my PT. The dealer also had to fix my air conditioner in May. It took over a week because the truck bringing the part they needed broke down. I really miss my PT.

Hi jb - No clue as to your problem but I would certainly start investigating the "lemon law". Sounds to me there's a big problem with your PT that may never be resolved. Don't go to long before demanding a new vehicle. (Just my $.02) Good Luck [:I]

The garage still has my Dream Cruiser. I called Friday to see when it would be ready and I was told they were waiting for a bolt. Maybe I'll get to drive my baby one of these days.

They said there was sand in the water pump and when it overheated, I warped the head. This is what they told my husband, not me. Keep in mind we live in Kentucky - sand? I know the cars are made in Mexico - was mine made in Cancun?

Sounds like to same problems I had with my 1995 Neon 2.0L. They (Chrysler) used an inferior head gasket which caused the antifreeze to mix with my oil. After 2500.00 to have the engine brought back to life. I found out that there is a Class Action Suit against Chrysler for this same thing. That there are more than 1,000 other Neon owners involved. You'd think Chrysler would have learned something from the Neon problems.
Hopefully I don't have one in my 2001 PT Cruiser. |

The 2001 2.0L and 2.4L engines use a newly designed head gasket. None have failed yet. |
