ravix,

Here's a good site to read all about upgrading the stock non-turbo PT. I think Bob also talks about the supercharger.

Ravix,

There are some PT Owner's on this board who have done amazing things with the after market turbo kits. The engine guru's have found numerous ways to optimize horsepower...their cars run great; a few of the "hotties" are still setting records at the race track. Unfortunately, the after market turbo kits are not "street legal" in all states. In other words, there is no CARB approval certificate to pass smog inspection tests. Big problem...you betcha! Otherwise, I would have bought me a turbo kit from the get go.

I've been running my Whipple supercharger for five years with a few minor problems like blowing belts...that's to be expected...the belts get tired over time. I don't pretend to break speed records because I don't but what I can do is merge in and out of traffic with ease. I've got all the power I need when I need it. In my opinion, the supercharger was a good "bang for the buck" at the time (2002) but now days, you can get everything you want in a factory turbo and I intend to do that when my car can't be fixed no more.

I share your thoughts about adding a supercharger, it's like night and day with the performance and zip getting in and out of trafic. I love the expresion on the faces of the kids that think "Dude, I just got beaten by a PT Cruiser".

However, to be honest with you it has not been a picnic either. I've talked with Whipple and others to only find out that the standard motor mounts just can't take the torque in first and second (5 speed). A grinding noise is heard starting out in either gear and found it to be the lower pulley rubbing against the frame. As a result, I actually have my motor chained down to the frame like some old chevy big block!!

Oh well, my plate dosn't say PT Bruzr for nothing.

Happy motoring...
