Question 2.4 valve chattering

my 2006 pt 2.4 not turbo, automatic,as the valve chattering syndrome at idle when warm.
went to dealer they say it's normal for pt engine to do that.they say cause it's 2 overhead cam and that they all do that.all other mecanical is aok,oil change done at 3,000 miles, but i am concerne about the valves, sound like a sewing machine.if it's not normal i will consider trading for another make.do not want an engine overhaul at 25,000 km.
anyone as an idee or as the same chattering?problem.
thank for your support.

I have a 2006 with alomost 25,000 miles. No chatter!!! I think the dealer is pulling your leg. They DO NOT all do that. Try another dealer as the advisor is full of it.

Find a good dealer. This may be your noise - Tech Service Bulletin:
09-007-04 03/02/2004 Engine & Engine Cooling:Engine -
Irregular Engine Snapping Sound

OVERVIEW: This bulletin involves chamfering the bore
radius on cam bearing caps L2 through L5 and R2 through R5.

NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a
2.0L, 2.4L DOHC, or 2.4L Turbo engine (sales code ECC,
EDZ, ED1, EDV, ED2, or EDT).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION: The sound may be noticed when the
engine is idling in park between idle rpm and 1400 rpm at
normal operating temperature. The sound is on the upper
end of the engine (cylinder head) towards the front of the
engine or passenger side (right side). The sound is
irregular, not periodic or harmonious. The frequency of
the sound will increase with RPM. The sound is more of a
higher pitch snapping noise, not a low metallic knock.

Take the TSB number or cut & paste the info that quicksilverdon posted, print the info and take it to the dealer. I can't believe that over the border they don't have the same TSB's.

Thanks Hooligan,

All they see is a young guy who they think knows nothing about cars. I'm going to try a different dealer tomorrow. I also did copy that and printed it out. Hopefully it won't cost to much to fix it and hope it dose not do any damage to the internals of the engine.

Thanks

Chris

FIND A GOOD DEALER!!!!
Dealer problems are posted all over different site's forums, for all makes of vehicles.
Once I found a great, honest dealer, I have purchased two more vehicles over the past 10 years, and drive 45 minutes one way to get there!
Getting a good dealer is easy!
Getting a GOOD DEALER IS PRICELESS!!!
(try a "Five Star" Chrysler Dealers!...and turn-in the other SOBs)
