Default Hard to shift into reverse

Hi, I have an 01 5-speed with about 50k miles. After a 4 hour road trip I could barely get the shifter in reverse. I really had to push over like something was resisting. Once over everything was fine. If I just went right and down like normal I would end up in 4th gear. The rest of the gears all shift fine. It has gotten easier, but still not normal.
Anyone else experience this and get it fixed/fixed it themselves? I know I could just take it to the dealership and be at their mercy, but I am a motorhead and would rather fix it myself if possible.
Thanks in advance,
George

My 01 done the same thing and it was the bushing in the shifter cable under the hood. Replaced them with booger bushings (google it) and never had another problem.

Thanks! I ordered a blue set. So was the old bushing falling apart and binding up? or just so sloppy that it wasn't pushing over far enough to engage?
Thanks anyway. Easy install?

Mine looked just like the ones in that picture, just missing all together. You can look at your to be sure they are right under the air box. The air box pulls straight up just wobble it back and forth and pull, you will think something else is holding it but it just snaps in.

Holy crap! there was one little piece of rubber left on one of them. It is amazing that I can shift at all. So the kit comes with like 3 small and 1 large bushing. I see the two under the air box. Where are the other two? What "picture" are you talking about? I am assuming the other end is at the base of the shifter itself? Under the car or under the center console?
Thanks for your help. Hope they show up soon!
George

I was talking about the picture on the booger bushing homepage. There are the two at the transmission and the others are under the console. I just replaced the ones under the hood and never had another problem. I was just to lazy to pull the console out. It will feel like a whole new car after you change those bushings, I know all in my head but it felt like new.
