What can be done to increase power on the standard Touring Edition engine ?
I've seen write ups on dual exhaust etc., but I'm an old Chevy V8 guy and what exactly does dual exhaust do for a 4 cylinder engine ? Duals on a V8 do quite a bit, but what exactly does 4 cylinders split in two do ? A 4 cylinder is what it is, unless turbocharged, isn't it ? The '06 Touring I have does what I want it do, gets mileage, has space, good looking and fun to drive , but I'd love to get more power from it if possible .What chip upgrades or mods can be done (already aware of K&N filter mods - on my Magnum and Kawasaki tour bike, did a bunch) to put more go in the Touring PT ? Again, how much can be squeezed from the 4 banger ? Thanks.

Bados, What are your recommendations then ? I have to agree and although I bought the car for mileage, would love to get some more power out of it. But, a 4 banger is a 4 banger, I have to agree. Have rarely ever seen a 4 cylinder car with much get up and go. I hear the turbo does well, but what about a standard induction system engine ?

The N/A PT doesn't really lend itself well to power mods, unless you go a bit extreme and do the full Hahn Racecraft turbo setup, but I don't think that's what you're looking for!! Most cold air intakes on the market are actually hot air intakes and won't really gain you anything, nor will a dual exhaust. Well, they look good and some of them sound great too, but they won't give you much power.
As for 4 cylinder engines not being conducive to speed - there are a few guys over at PTCrew.com who are now running very, very low 12 second 1/4 mile times with their turbo PT Cruisers. They are NOT spraying nitrous, and the cars are daily drivers. With a little tuning two of them should break into the high 11 second bracket very soon. If that ain't fast for a daily drive street car, I don't know what is. Oh, ye of little faith

While a dual exhaust in itself doesn't do squat, a free-flowing exhaust will help. Take a look a BTG - you can look straight thru their exhaust - THAT's free-flow!
An intake like an AirAid or K&N FIPK that have "dams" around the filter also help. I did intake & exhaust on both my PTs and will do it on my next PT, too... Do both and you'll notice the improvement, but you won't snap your neck...

Gentlemen, if you check his post, he wants POWER, if he had said SPEED the answers could have been different.
