Try using bulb grease. Maybe that will cure the problem Also, I always put on a pair of those latex gloves when Im changing bulbs out.

I am no genius , but I think it more so has something to do with the bulb getting wet or moisture on it when it is hot. I always some time of clothe while changing my gfs bulbs out an it never made a difference until I drilled the holes.

I like the silicone idea. It sets fast. Also, you can wipe the bulb after install with some alcohol on tp just to be safe.

I think--not 100% certain--that bulb grease is the same as dielectric grease. I'm certain enough that I use dielectric grease because a big tube of dielectric grease is much more cost-effective than an itty-bitty packet of bulb grease for $1.19.

When I was a kid, bulb grease was a joke. Sort of like a personal computer and a wireless telephone.

I bought my 2001 in 2003 with slight mods; original tail light assembly.
I've had the same problem up until last year. both bulbs would blow only at different intervals. I've not bothered trying to figure it out just kept replacing the bulbs.
Also up until a year ago my girlfriend mostly drove the Cruise...
I don't know if she rode the brakes, she does wait till the last moment to stop for stop signs & red lights.
I don't let her drive it much any more...

LOL We used to refer to that as a "real estate driver". The real estate salespeople used to drive that way back in a previous mini-bubble in SoCal & NoCal a long time ago... in a hurry for that next "sales hit"!

I recently purchased my 2003 orange Dream Cruiser a few months ago. Whoever had it before me kept it in immaculate shape, and the car has done wonderful. I call it Orange Slice! And I absolutely love it, except for one minor thing...

My brakelight light bulbs keep exploding!

I've replaced them three times, and I'm wondering if anyone else has had this problem? I open up the taillight assembly and the brake bulbs are shattered inside. My first thought was that water was getting into the assembly and steaming up, but I can't find any trace of it. Is there a short somewhere? How much on average would a repair like that cost? Would a short even cause the bulbs to pop? Has anyone else had this problem before? I've never seen it in any cars that I've owned. All of the other lights in the rear are working fine, including the backup light, the upper brake light and my turn signals. It's only the lower brake lights, and they simultaneously explode.

Sorry for being so wordy! Thanks for any help!

Cass,

Were you able to ever solve the case of exploding rear lights a few years ago? I am having the same issue still and cannot figure it out. I have blown out 4 set of bulbs in the last year, but cannot figure out what is causing this. I am hoping you have the silver bullet!

I have started to experience this same phenomenon. Over the last year, I have had three sets blown. The last within 8 days. Has anyone found a solution for this? Do the LED lights seem to last? I cannot find anything on a recall for these but it sure seems like it's happening to quite a few folks.
