Default PT Trouble

Bought my 02 non turbo 5 months ago now at 89000 k. It had a rough idle but not too serious. I changed plugs and wires and no difference. When the weather warmed up it started overheating. I latley found the cooling fan low speed wasn't working. Chrysler said $465 for new fan and shroud assembly. I took it apart and found it needed brushes.

The rough idle has been getting worse ,now it pings like crazy and stalls alot and really hard to start. I pu in a new battery, air filter, pcv. Checked engine coolant sensor. Still barely running. It has been showing an intermittant error code. When I checked it was miss on #2 and 3 cylinder.

Any suggestions? I'm afraid to take it in to have them change parts at my expense to find the problem.

Did you use platinum plugs and performance wires? Did you gap the plugs @.040?

Welcome to the Forum.

I agree with Hooligan. First re-check your wires and plugs. I've also heard about the coil pack (where the wires plug in) going bad. I believe there's two coils in the pack for the 4 cylinders and if one goes bad, that will affect 2 cylinders....just a thought.

I did use platinum plugs
The wires were a lot heavier than stock and had heat sheilds but I don't know if they were performance.
I'll look into coil packs though.
Would that be something that would slowly deteriorate?
Thanks for the suggestions.

I gapped the plugs for 050 because thats what was on the sticker under the hood.
After reading here a bit I changed them to 040.
No improvement

Sure sounds like the classic bad wires... suppose it could be a coil pack....
I'd get Crane wires www.RaceAndStreet.Com - then you could rule out wires.
Be sure the wires are seated - new wires are hard to get to "click" - at both ends.
