0-60 for a manual is like 8 and a half. i think i read somewhere that for an automatic its somewhere in the 10's. anyone know for sure? and anyone know how they test it and what gear?

Referring to page 21 of the 2001 Road & Track guide to the PT Cruiser, ......

The 5-speed PT does 60mph in 8.9 seconds. The 1/4 miles is 16.7 @ 83.2mph. Temps were 74F, humidity 39%, elevation 1010ft, no winds.

Although they didn't test the auto trans, I've made many base runs with 2001 & 2002 PTs. They run 18.3-18.4 in the 1/4 mile in stock configuration.
