Default trouble !!

hello all, just coming back from the doctor with my daughter (swimmers ear) and there was alittle traffic saw an opening stepped on it to change lanes and the car started lurching back and fourth and wouldn't go above 40 mph the engine light came on and has stayed on with starting and shutting car off any ideas what is wrong?? the car is still lurching also if you step on the gas tach goes up to 2,500 and thats when the lurching happens and it will not go above 2,500 rpms at all

Bob,

First thing to do is run a self diagnostic code check to see if a code was set in the computer. It probably was since your engine light is on. Then go to the code charts to see what the codes breaks out to so you can start to fix the problem. Here's the link to the procedure to run the check. On the same page are the links to the two tables that contain the fault codes themselves. Good Luck.

the car is at the local dealership here on staten island i didn't buy the car there but they were very cool and said they will let me know monday what has gone wrong

Looks like it may have "jumped timimg". In the case above, the owner was told that they had to adjust the cam and that there was a timing misalignment!

dearlership replaced the cam sensor and all is ok i hope it stays ok !![8)]
