Default Noob Question about Oil Filter

I've been thinking about changing the Oil On my 06 Pt. But I was wondering where the Oil Filter was Located. And if anybody had any tips on how to best Remove it. Seems like everything under the Hood is a Tightly Packed.

WELCOME to the forum.

It sounds like you've never did this kind of maintenance before. It doesn't matter how tight everything is under the hood because the filter and plug to release the oil are both underneath the car. The filter is located vertically right beside the transaxle oil retaining nut.

You'll need a 13mm socket or wrench for the oil retaining nut and an oil filter wrench. Different kinds of filter wrenches are available and different sizes. You need the smaller one. A good wide deep pan to catch the oil from the transaxle and filter.

You'll need a car jack and jack stands (don't go under the car with just the jack) or maybe a good set of ramps.

Personally, before your first time doing this, I'd ask a friend who has some experience to stop over and give you some pointers or watch you do it. Learn from experience, then buy him some lunch.

Hey Crewzin - you said transaxle twice - I think he's changing the engine oil.
I'd say buy a set of "rhino ramps" - most auto stores have them for $20. They're plastic, but can hold 2 tons and have the right angle for the PT - steel ones I had were too steep, and the body of the PT would've hit if I used them.
I use a "strap wrench" from Sears for the filter - It's a handle and a strip of rubber that works great.
A tip - I get 2 large sheets of cardboard - 1 I put the oil drain pan on, and the other I use to lie on my back on and slide under to get at plug & filter.

I agree - have a "veteran" oversee your first change, only maybe a beer instead of lunch...
