Hello, hope you can help me here.
My 04 PT Cruiser runs like a charm without the AC on. When I turn the aforementioned component (the AC) then the car idles low and feels like like it needs a tune up or some kind of fuel injector cleaner (I have added two of these in the last week... hasn't helped.) My mechanic said it was the dryer and changed it, worked fine for one day, but this morning when I was about to go to work, it started idling low and wanted to die on me with the AC on (so of course I had to drive without turning on the AC.) Any ideas? |

There's an IAC (I think it's Idle Air Controller) servo that should up the rpms when A/C is turned on - sounds like that's your problem. Does the A/C work okay? Reason I ask is why would mechanic look at the A/C when your problem is the idle?

Thanks for replying.
AC WAS working well until the morning I took my Cruiser to my mechanic (it stopped cooling that day.) He said that the dryer had a leak and he replaced that. AC is now working (cooling) but it does mess up my idle every time I turn it on thus I have to drive my Cruiser without AC (hot!!!) Thank you for replying. If you think it could be something else let me know. BTW, he mentioned it could also be a sensor... what do you think? Last edited by churdiales : 15 Aug 2007 at 03:00 pm. |

There has to be a signal that tells the IAC that A/C is on - on a normal PT (one without a problem), when you turn on the A/C at idle, the idle speeds up. I don't know if it's a sensor, it's probably a connection (wire) from the A/C clutch to the IAC. Sure sounds like that's it.

What about the fans?
Could they be malfunctioning and thus causing compressor to overheat causing then a low idling and a feeling that the car wants to die? I really appreciate your help... |

UPDATE: if anyboday can help, please, please reply...
I changed the IAC valve, had a tune up, did a fue injection (flush/cleanup?) and NOTHING worked... car still idles low and seems like it's going to die when A/C is on... especially when cold. IDEAS? PLEASE? |
