How many miles did you have on your PT when you replaced the battery?

Mine needed one at 35,000. I tried to get an Optima that would be a close fit, but they don't make a drop in. My 02 has a weird size, small, with reversed terminals. Has an insulative wrap, and some kinda temperature sensor for the battery. Maybe anything other than the scrawny original isn't compatible with the car's electrical system.

See the other thread but the Optima red & yellow fit just fine! The cable are tight but they reach.
Good luck, joel

Thanks for the info. I looked into the 34R and 51R. Both are 2 inches longer than my battery tray. (02 bottom of the line model). The tray is the only limiting factor. Also noticed the seemingly undersized battery cables, and the main ground to the inner fender panel is a scream.

quicksilver - my original battery may have died from not being used much. The car still has under 40,000 on it, and the battery lasted 5 years. I have run additional #10 "supplemental" grounds to the ECC, TB and head. One extra #4 to the starter. I've measured up to .3V differences between some "grounds" in this car. Wonder if all have the phenomena. A lot of other strappings, but they're for radio noise suppression. Thanks for the info.

Well, 5.5 years and 54k miles and OEM battery still going strong in the 2002. The 2003 is original with 34k miles and 4.5 years.
