My pt died on my while driving, it cranks fine but wont start. Checked for a spark and have one, also check and can hear my fuel pump buzz when i turn the car on. Any ideas what it could be? think its the fuel pump but just want to get more input.

Well N2ROW checked to see if the timing belt snapped, how about you master91599, did you check to see if the timing belt is still good?

What is a sign of a belt breaking? Will I still see the cams spin?

if the timing belt is broken the cams shouldn't spin.
Check the valve at the end of the fuel rail. |

I exposed the belt. And its started to rip apart. But its still attached. Not sure now. Im going to have to do the belt anyway, plus the sensor is it dont start after the belt vhange. Ill post in twp or three weeks. They want 750 to do the belt, incuded will be water pump and tensioner.

I had the same thing on my '01 and it ended up that the belt jumped one tooth. Ended up having to have the belt reset so went ahead and had everything replaced since it is the same process. I found a local mechanic that did it for $500 with new parts and waterpump!!!

Im going stand by on the sensors and get the belt done. Bad time lol with the holiday spending. Probably in 3 weeks ill get it done. I will advise. Thanks

Questions if the gear jumps a tooth, would there be damage to the valves. Or is this the type of engine that the valves will clear the head and cause no damage?
|

The PT has a non-interference engine, which means the valves can't hit the piston tops but free wheeling valves (if the belt breaks) can hit each other. There's only been one in hundreds of cases where the belt broke where any internal damage was done. If the gear jumps a tooth, you shouldn't have any worries except hard starting and ruff idle.
