That's another question I had. Unless they stuck a magnet pen down the spark plug hole and extracted it already.

Yeah and 1 more question….how would it get past the intercooler?

About the only plausible explanation I can think of is the electrode came off the spark plug and bounced around in the engine.

It would be possible for someone to remove the hose from the throttle body, pop a small bolt, nut whatever in there and it would take some time to get to the combustion chamber, it would have to be small enough to pass through the valve.
ONE possibility,,, if the throttle plate butterfly screw came off it could explain how the blot got in there, Get a hold of the throttle body and check the bolts, if one is missing,, bingo,, OR, if one looks new and the other old,, they may have caught it and replaced it to avoid buying the motor. OK, nothing has changed.
I still don't have a bolt to take a picture of, but I did find out it was a 10mm bolt from my sisters boy friend. Again he said the mechanics scanned the bolt and it showed that it didn't belong anywhere in the motor. So with that info, does anyone know if a bolt that size can work it's way in the motor? Sorry if I don't have anything more to share at this time. We all have conflicting work schedules. Plus, of the 3 of us, it seems I'm the most willing to fight, and it's not even my problem. It just really eats at my soul for someone to get screwed like this, especially someone in my family. Thanks again for everyone who posted here so far. |

The valve lift on most any stock vehicle will be anywhere from .30 to .35 inches ..... which converts to a max of about 9mm. I think it'd be a cold day in hell when an engine consumes a 10mm bolt. Like I said, it might be possible to ruin the head (and even then just one valve and valve seat) with a bolt, but realisticly not an entire engine.

10 mm i cant see how it would happen and especially after they drove 4,000 miles then all of a sudden this happens ?? something is not right for sure , did you ever contact a lawyer ??

10mm bolt,,, bull,, never would make it past the valve. Get the car, bolt and anything else call a lawyer, and seek out a quality mechanic,

I have a question. How did anyone get under the hood in the first place, Doesn't your sister or her boy friend keep there PT locked. Another way to get an object into the engine is to remove the oil fill cap and put a bolt in there. I'd be more interested in how the boy friend drives her car when she's not in it. Does he have a heavy foot. Maybe something did come loose.
