I'm just curious if the GT has a knock sensor. If the turbo lite can run on regular gas, and the only difference between the two is the ecu, then I wonder if the GT when fueled with regular will go into a very similar timing map. If so then couldn't you just run a GT on regular with reduced output? Note that this is a question being asked with a lot of ignorance on my part. I don't know if the GT has a knock sensor, and if it does how much it is able to modify the mapping.

I joined this forum and came here looking for help from some people who know the Cruisers and to answer a few questions. And now I have people telling me I'm cheap and that I should not buy the GT if I can't afford the gas required. You have some nerve!! You don't know me from squat! Then I have someone telling to check the owners manual to a car I have not been to look at yet. How is that possible? Guess I will just move on from this forum to another since people have nothing but smart and unkind remarks. Thank you to the people who have helped me.

OK, everyone back to their own corners.

Obviously, uxb2001 didn't read all the threads on this topic or he/she would have known you didn't buy a cruiser yet and can't read the owners manual. Not sticking up for him/her but there are numerous owners that do ask questions that could easily be found in their owners manual if they took the time to look. That doesn't excuse not reading all the replys to find out what's going on before jumping in.

We heard quite a bit of new owners, and some older ones complaining about gas mileage and with the GT recommending premium fuel for optimum performance, a lot of us question anyone who buys a car knowing it needs the higher price fuel as to why they would even look at it. Mean Green, without mincing words, just expressed his opinion at not only you, but the countless owners of the high performance GT that are looking for ways of not using what's recommended.

Gas isn't going anywhere but UP. Rumors have it at $4 a gallon by summer so if buying premium fuel will put a crunch on the expenses, drop down to the models that take regular. I do believe that the middle grade model (Touring?) with the Turbo Lite can be ordered with almost all the extras that the GT has or they are available in the aftermarket.

Allright, I was curious about this too since I just acquired a 2006 PT GT Turbo High Output Cruiser Convertible. The owners manual states that the 2.4HO is designed to provide excellent fuel economy and performance when using high quality unleaded gasoline having an octane rating of 91. The purchase of higher octain is not required. Then they go on to say, The use of High quality gasoline having an octane rating of 91 is reccomended but not required. A minumum of 87 may safely be used for the vehicle. Use of lower octane gasolines however, may result in reduced acceleration performance. Light spark knock at low engine speeds is not harmfulto your engine. However, continued heavy spark knock at high speeds can cause damage. The use of fuel additives known as octane boosters are not reccomended.

Maybe where you are. My neighborhood Chevron has a difference of $.40 between Regular and Premium. The gas companies are not only ripping us off with the set price, now it looks like the stations themselves, who used to have 10 cents between regular and middle grade and another 10 cents to move up to premium, have now gone to 20 cents between grades.

WOW! Well even at that 4 to5 still is not a big deal. Must be rich people in FLA.

On a side note I refuse to buy gas from Chevron. It is affiliated with that psycho down in Venezuela!

Or is that Citgo....?
