Default New guy here with important questions

I just resently bought a 2003 Cruiser Limited Edition, and I love it!!! We drove it from Pa. to Fla. and back for vacation, and my G/F loved driving it. Now she would like one of her own. She owns a 04 Jeep GC, and has been looking to downsize. The Cruiser I bought is loaded with all the goodies (ie: heated leather, sunroof, TC, & ABS etc). She would like the same, and right now all we have been finding with all those goodies are some 04 & 05 GT Turbo models. So here's my questions. Do you, or should you use premium gas all the time with the turbos? Can you mix the fuels, using both Reg. & Prem? Or maybe additives(octane booster)? Can someone please help before we make a bad decision.
Thanks!

Are the PT's that your looking at all GTs, or are some of them turbo models without actually being a GT ?

There are turbo models putting out only 180hp and are called "Tubo Lite" and run perfectly well on regular grade fuel. They say "Turbo" on the tailgate but not GT.

The GTs are putting out somewhere around 220hp and will run best on premium fuel but they can run on middle grade and sometimes regular because the computer will recognize the lower octane and de-tune (for lack of a better word) the engine. I wouldn't think you would want to run regular permanently though.

Thinking more about this, at one point even the GT models, if they didn't say "High Output" are actually the 180hp version Turbo's that take regular fuel. Hopefully someone on the forum will know the exact year(s) you can tell the difference.

Welcome to the forums!

If you want that Turbo/Turbo Lite/GT, I guess you'll have to be willing to put that extra grade of Octane in the tanks. If you don't want to do that - Then get the Regular Cruiser.

I have a 2005 Limited with the "turbo-lite" 180 hp motor. Mine was manufactured within a week of the end of 2005 model year production. My car had 9 miles on it when I took delivery. It now has around 9,400 miles on it. The owners manual tells me that I may use regular fuel in my car but I have always used premium. The 2005 GT "high output" turbo requires premium fuel.

I understand that mid-grade gas is specified for the 2006 Limited with the very same "turbo-lite" motor found in the 2005 models. There were no changes to the specifications. The 2006 GT "high output" turbo, had an increase in horsepower. The 2006 GT "high output" turbo requires premium fuel.

Welcome !! The HO Turbos I've seen have a tag inside the gas tank cover that states: "Premium Fuel Only".

Welcome.
I suspect you problem centers around the Traction Control and ABS.
GTs come with them standard, they're options on all other PTs.
ALL GTs recommend premium fuel, but many run on the "plus" grade. My daughter and her husband both have GTs and use "plus". I think it would be riskier to use regular.

There are turbos made from '04 on that run fine on regular, but they are not GTs, and the Trac and ABS were optional on those.

I have an '05 turbo - not a GT - and ordered the trac and ABS extra.

Thanks for eyeryones help with my questions. We are going to continue to look around, and hopefully we will find what we want. I do not have any photos of my Cruiser posted yet. But I will once it gets warmer and I give her a bath. It's still dirty from our trip to Fla and back. Thanks again, and for making me feel welcome!!!!

If you can't afford premium then don't get the GT. Isn't anything worse than an owner who's too cheap to treat their car well.
