04 pt cruiser question

I've noticed that when the motor is running and with the a/c on, the car trys to die, but keeps running, but will die if you don't apply more gas. Would this be caused by low freon, or somthing
else? I thought it may be the fuel filter but with the a/c off it runs fine.

Which line is the low side for putting freon in?
On mine there is a place on top and the other is lower down in front of
the motor. Is it the one on top?

Well, you haven't given us a lot to go on, but let's see,

-old, dirty spark plugs? (how many miles?)
-bad gas? (try some dry gas/stp fuel system cleaner)
-old spark plug wires
-clogged fuel injectors?
-dirty air filter?

I don't think the freon level effects how well the car runs, if the level gets too low, the pressure switch won't let the compressor run.

I'm so sorry, its a 2.4L non turbo, stock.
out of the 5 answers it sounds like it could be the wires, Haven't changed them
since I bought the car. I put new plugs in not to long ago but did not put
new wires on. The car has 81,000 miles on it.

By all means replace the wires. Also could be the idle air controller (IAC) - you can take it out and clean it. Do a search on IAC.

I went and changed the wires and that took care of the problem, Its
running a lot better now. Test drove it and it seems it has more power and
idles better too. Thanks so much for the help.
