Check your mirrors & make sure you're not being closely followed by a large boat parked on a trailer........ ;-D

I have a 2004 pt non turbo 81000km manual, and i get about 23 mpg 90 % city driving and i think it`s not too bad for a heavy car. My dad has a 2003 pt non turbo automatic and he average around 20 mpg.

Definitely change plugs & wires if you still have the stock ones, that will help some too.
I get simular results with my '03 5-speed, non-turbo. My driving is more of a mix, highway/city where I usually get 24 to 26. I always short shift and get into 5th as soon as possible and use a light foot. When on the highway, I set the cruise at 65 and I'll get around 30. Before they started messing around with the gas blends, I averaged 33-35, with one trip at, what I couldn't beleive, was 37! I checked those numbers several times. Several months later after the change of blends it dropped to around 30. It just seems strange that there is such a big difference in what these cars get for gas mileage. Anyone have any ideas why this is?

Default Re: MPG Sucks! Maybe not?

I currently have two cars I use to get to work. I do 125 miles a day. The trip is 30% highway and 70% stop and go due to lights. My Ford Contour SVT with 2.5 liter V6 averages about 28 mpg. My PT Cruiser GT turbo convertible gets just about 25 mpg. I also had an Altima with a 3.5 liter V6, it got me about 26 mpg. So the PT is really not that bad considering its a 220 HP car.

I have an 03 PT GT, and I average 19-20 mpg in the city (heavy foot) and have gotten 28 mpg highway, with cruise set on 70mph.

I don't have any special filters or spark plugs or wires...they are all stock. Maybe we do have special 93 octane gas in Houston

We use the crappy "ethanol blend" gas here in CT too. I think it's ~10% ethanol. Mileage would be even better if we could use straight gas. Alcohol fuels have less BTU's energy per volume, so there's no way you can match the mileage of pure gasoline with a blended fuel.
I hate having it shoved down our throats.......

Our 07 GT convertible, my wifes car, now has about 2800 miles on it and now is getting around 20 mpg on in our local driving. It only gets worse when I drive it!
