Could be that the mileage is down because you are running premium fuel. I know it says in the Owners Manual NOT to run Premium Fuel. At least in mine, but it's normally aspirated. I had the cold air sensor replaced, and now I'm up to 19 MPG. Woo Haa!

Well, I've learned a bunch since being on this forum and reading. I'm definitely going to replace plugs and wires this weekend and see how it responds. It has a little shutter when it idles and also a bit of a bogg when you try to accelerate from a stop. I'm sure that should fix the issue. Didn't realize until reading here that the factory wires are junk. Appreciate the info!

Hi all
Newbie here

Guess do to owning a Jeep Cherokee sport since 1999 my expectation for mpg are low.I find my 2006 gt convert, just purchaced a month ago ,not even broken in yet ,to be better than my Cherokee and less than my 1998 Neon.I hope it gets better but if doesnt oh well ,still one of the most unique convert on the road ,in my humble opinion I looked up the Toyota Sienna previously mention its rated at 17 city 23 highway ,not much better if any from the PT

Took a trip last week from N. Cal. to Idaho with my wife 17 yr old guys and our luggage in our 07 PT Touring. with auto.. almost 900 lbs worth of people and baggage Cruised over the Sierras through Nevada and into Idaho with no problems cooking along at 75+ mph. Got about 24 mpg. Not to bad chugging almost 1k extra lbs across country. On the way back for curiosity did a stretch at 65 mpg and mpg clicked up to 27 mpg.... Then most of the way home we pushed against strong head winds, wife insisted on doing 80+ (she was driving), mpg fell to 21. Last tank up and over the Sierras, me driving, and we did about 25.

So, I'm thinking... love the Cruiser. Great drive for the week. Comfy for 4 with all our bags. I want better mpg? Gotta lay off the peddle on the right. Did I lack for power? Not really. Moved out when I wanted and had no problem holding speed with cruise on.

So my friend with a Prius chides me about buying the Cruiser. Let's see, I paid about $14k. He paid $12K more. In the next three or four years he plans to keep his cutting edge car high mpg car I will still have a bunch more $$ in my back pocket. And then he will be looking at replacing those batteries... ouch. I figure just looking and mpg isn't as telling as total cost of car, maintenance and fuel. I tell he that and he gets a bit miffed at me. I'm still smiling and thoroughly enjoy driving the cruiser.

Just ask your buddy where they are going to put those used enviornment killing batteries? Also, he should take a look around the plant where the Prius is made. I saw a pic and the landscape was void of any vegitation. It was blamed on the batteries. Gotta love the way the nickel is mined for the Prius batteries at the Sudbury, Ontario plant. Where the nickel is mined and smelted is an environmental disaster.

Smile How to improve MPG

To update my poor MPG - while planning a 1600 mile trip, I took the Cruiser to a Chrysler dealer to inquire about improving the gas mileage. The service manager asked if I use Ethanol gasoline. I explained that I did and didn't think it made a difference. He said to use NON-ETHANOL gasoline and I'd be amazed at the MPG improvement.

My Cruiser was getting 16-17 MPG in town and 20 MPG highway. With non-ethanol gas I now get about 20 MPG in town and 26-28 MPG on the highway!

That's a heck of an improvement and I thought others could benefit from this information.

Wayne (YAHOO!)

What do you mean by ethanol gasoline? You were using straight ethanol gas or the 10% ethanol mixed gas. Around here you can't get any gas that isn't 10% ethanol. Ethanol sucks for mpg, even the 10% mix.

I'm unaware of "straight" ethanol gasoline...I was referring to a blend containing up to 10% ethanol. Plenty of outlets in the Dallas area offer non-ethanol fuel and I had no problem locating it on my trip to Alabama.
