I have a 2008 NA, on a trip from Michigan to Florida over the lasts fillups, I have gotten 21.+ to 31.+. We have driven at about 65 MPH since we left. I AM very pleased with that mileage. You can check my Fuelly to see the exact MPG we got. The one 18.+ was a lot of city stop and go driving.

My wife and I are both very light-footed, so it's not a driving issue. Aside from tire pressure and tuneup, is there any way to improve on this gas mileage?

We really like this car and only paid 9 K for it, but if I'd known about the mileage issue I wouldn't have bought it.
haha sounds about like my experience(except the buying part and wife and mine has cruise) but however dad and i have been driving from our house in north carolina down here to columbia south carolina(yeah keep a watch out for the brightlight pc :P) and heck i figured up the avg gas mileage for coming back..and it was 26 mpg!! i was like holy s***(dad got mad cuz i said that) it has NEVER got that much mileage

I'm impressed... with the 31 mpg. Too bad it doesn't happen very often, certainly not enough to write home about.

Seems that 20 mpg is the norm for 90% of everyone's stop and go driving.

Exactly you have a clue and I thank you for it.. For some of the others that have posted.. Please read on....

Its a heavy car its not a honda civic if you guys wanted a civics milage you should have bought a civic.

You bought a car that is shaped like a brick, is porky @3400lbs and you expect 30mpg out of it? Not gonna happen..

And to anyone who says "If I had known about the milage?" Sorry you didn't do your research.. Blame yourself not anyone else. Its been out of almost 10years and this site a bunch of others have been around just as long.. The info is out there..

Sorry guys just really tired of people whining about stuff they had total control over..

Yep... only taken 1 trip with it so far, 500 miles roundtrip to Atlanta... that was in a 3400 lb car with me (210 lbs), girlfriend (120 lbs), and her son (100 lbs)... in addition 2 coolers full of food and ice and a suitcase full of clothes... call it 100 lbs in luggage.

That's 3930 lbs, and I only got 23 mpg with cruise set at 75. Stop and go I get 20...

2006 Limited G Automatic non-turbo:

Just got back from a 2000 mile round trip mostly interstate and with an average speed of 73mph got 26+ mpg. Usual in town mpg is 18-20.5 using regular gas, and about 2 mpg lower in the winter. I did notice a small improvement in mileage after I hit 25K on the odometer in the PT.

After the first few weeks of ownership I learned to never use E10 blended gas in this beast. It really kills the gas mileage - knocks 2-3mpg off. Totally not worth the dime savings per gallon. Last year I was on vacation and ended up in an area where they only had E10 gas (other pumps were dry) and sure enough, lousy mileage until I burned that tankload off.

Yep same thing happens to the turbo cars who don't run premium in them.. You save on the gallon price but you pay so much more in lack of performance.. I did the math once it was less than medium latte at Starbucks. So buy a drip and feed it the good stuff..

One things I do on road trips is pack a couple bottles of octane booster, if you are in a place with sketchy fuel, boost it, it should help even out until you get to a big city.

Smile Re: MPG Sucks!

Wondering if anyone has got a
"Performance Speed Chip Fuel Saver"
for the PT Cruiser. It claims to increase MPG by up to 15, while also
increasing horsepower???

Saw it on eBay:

Don't believe a word of that junk no computer chip is going to salve the fuel millage problem or give you such a huge boost, maybe in a diesel but only in HP. Chrysler has put a long time and spent a lot of money on making these cars.

Performance chips are only really good if you have done major work to the motor such as a cam.

+50% MPG increase for less than than 10$ (shipping included), just think about it by yourself 30 seconds...yes, spin that squirrel wheel a bit... try to figure it out on your own... Does it make sense to you now?

I'm always amazed everytime I see this on Ebay. I'm like "what, they still TRY to sell this kind of junk?"

After reading this, I understand why...'cause it seems to be a worthwhile "try" after all.

How many guys like him didn't bother to ask on a forum before purchasing it? ...we're in 2009...wow...
