Bob, in reading this thread i see that you asked this question, meaning you have an idea whats going on with MY cruiser lol. mine is doing somewhat the same thing as above, but its doing it between 2.5 and 3 rpm and i get a "done" code on the dash. any help for me?


p.s. sorry to jack this thread , i did post my own but so far havent had any replies

If the car doesnt want to rev past 2500-3000 then it is probably a cam position sensor or crank sensor.

Double check your codes. worst case buy a spare mopar cam sensor and throw it in and see it fixes the problem. I had to replace one in my 03 GT and had the spare on the shelf, it showed the code though.

Oh mine crapped out at about 100K miles.

My cam position sensor went bad code P0340 set. it was intermittent, gradually got worse and worse. Went 5 weeks between first occurrence and 2nd occurrence, then another few weeks before it became undrivable. I reset the PCM the 1st and 2nd occurrence. After the third it set when I started it and stayed lit. Car absolutely would not get past 2500 rpms (not to 3000, not even close 2500 was the top). but would idle and drive very conservatively up to about 45mph just fine. RPL sensor repaired it 100%.

My wife's 03 did about the same thing. My wife said it started shaking while on the X-way, so she pulled over. When I got there, it would start fine and even drive slowly in first for a minute or two before slipping out of gear. It would shake if I gave it gas. Wouldn't go into 2nd but it didn't die. Got a few codes. P0131, preconverter O2 sensor low input voltage. P0440, P0441 and P0456, all about evap system failure/leak. I think those are unrelated to the problem. My wife said the check engine light came on a couple days earlier and gave her a code P0700, then the check engine light went off. I didn't get that code when I ran them. 0700 is a transaxle control system malfunction. Could this be a loose connector to the TCM? Maybe a bad TCM? I never got a P0604 or 0605, indicating a TCM fault. What could this be?
