Hi all!
I was driving to work this morning on the freeway when the engine light went on about a mile after the car started jerking during rush hour! I would accelarate and it would want to stall. Its a 2006 pt with 32,716 miles. I called the dealership ; Just had it towed from my work. I told the guy at chrysler to call me and let me know whats wrong with it and he said " yes and I will let you know if the repair work is under warranty"! Its covered up tp 36,000 miles right? Anyways, I just wanted to know if you have any ideas what is wrong with it. Transmission? Please help me, I don't want the dealership to be lying to me. Thanks, helene

helene,
...and anyone else reading this thread. Please learn how to find the fault codes that the computer sets when there's trouble. These codes help us and you try to identify what's wrong with your PT. It's an easy thing to do even with no mechanical abilities. With the engine OFF, turn the key on and off 3 times with the last time leaving the key pointed towards the windshield. Do this turning of the key within 5 seconds from start to stop. If you do it right, the fault codes (ex: P0171) will show up at the bottom of the middle dial where the mileage number usually are. If no codes from the computer are available, it should read "no falults" or "done".

CREWZIN, I have tried the turning trick and on my PT I get a series of ------, no "done" nor "no faults". I don't think I'm doing any thing different, maybe on the 2006 & up they are different?

Hmmmm. Maybe Chrysler did away with the "done" for the "-----" series, still meaning there's no faults stored in the computer. Did you ever get a fault code when there was one stored by the computer to know that your doing the procedure correctly?

Never tried looking for the code before. I followed CREWZIN's directions and did it 8 to 10 times, got the same ------.

06+ use the CAN protocols and i dont think the dash code feature works on them. there are cheap scan tools out there that will scan OBD2+CAN. easy to use and good priced. i think harbor freight has them as well as sears and any autoparts store.
