The part of the plug you adjust gap is the part that is fastened to the side.

From the tip of the center electrode to the inside tip of the side electrode is the GAP.

Cool Re: Spark Plug Guide

Thanks guys! I have the right kind of gap tool now. It has the gapping tool that bends the side electrode a bit to make the .40 gap.
Now if only you both can put the plugs and wires on it would be a piece of cake!

Forget it I'll do it!!

Cool Re: Spark Plug Guide

I've been at the hospital with my wife for her histoectmory(sp) which she also gave birth to a football size thyriod tumor no cancer. I would have called or sent plane tickets otherwise! Still haven't put in the plugs and wires yet...spending nights with her too!

Cool Re: Spark Plug Guide

Unless spark plug technology has changed a lot in the last 5 years or so (not done it on the PT yet), I believe that you would have to really man-handle the spark plug tip to break it.
-Pressing gently on a smooth, clean surface can reduce the gap. Or, simply a gentle nudge/wiggle with each successively larger gap blade can get you to the desired widening.

Cool Re: Spark Plug Guide

The side electode is what gets moved or bent. My Champion double platinum plugs had a small pin sticking out of the center electrode which in different plugs there is no pin and you would use the flat guage wire to gap it. I was told not to do it that way and I got a more diverse gauge with a little thick blade with a notch in it to bend the side electrode and use the c shaped wire on the side of the gauge for the gapping distance. Worked like a charm.
Soonercruiser nothing has changed but that little pin sticking out of the plug that confused me and that sure is simple these days.

Jeff,

Skylight only comes to the forum once in awhile but I'm sure he will see your thanks.

If you have a 2001 or 2002 follow all the instructions. Any newer than that and they'll be a at least one thing (ERG pipe) that you won't have.
