Hi, I was looking at the guide, and was wondering if there any spark plugs come already gapped, or do I have to do each manuelly. I do not have the tool to do it, if so. Im relatively new at this with the PT cruiser. Ive changed plugs on other cars, but still new here.

My car is an '06 PT Touring.

P.S. What plugs and wires would u recommend for that model?

Welcome to the forum Justin.

While picking up plugs just spend a couple dollars for a gaping tool. The new gap recommended by Chrysler for your model is .040in. Some plugs come pre gaped but they won't be .040in

What we have been recommending is the Champion Double Platinum plugs #7570. Any decent set of wires will be better than the OEM set that comes with the cruiser. The guide also recommends dielectric grease on the wires ends and anti-seize on the plugs threads.

I've been looking around to try and find the sparks and wires I need. So far, I found the sparks themselves for a fairly decent price, but I don't know if there's any particular wires I should look for, or where to get the grease and anti-seize. Is there any recommendation on the wires? I don't want to buy some and then find out they don't fit. Actually let me amend that. I don't want to buy wires that cost 100 dollars and they don't fit :/ Thanks.

Do you have any auto parts stores where you live? Pep Boys, Auto Zone or Discount Auto? Any auto stores should be able to help you find plugs that will fit the cruiser. They should also carry small tubes of anti-seize and dielectric grease. Sometimes they come in a package with both tubes together.

Yes, there's plenty of them. I found where I can order the plugs themselves easy enough, I just want the wires too. I've also got a Car Toys nearby. I'll stop by one and see what they recommend for wires, and see if I can get some that don't cost a fortune.

Great Information, Thanks a Bunch! The photo directions were most helpful
2001 Limited PT Cruiser 59061 miles, was running bad - misfiring, sluggish get up and go, & rough idle. Plugs and wires were original until today. When the plugs were removed the gaps were between 65 and 78 (pretty bad). I put on Autolite double platinum spark plugs (3.99 ea) and BWD Select wires (33.00), nothing fancy (I'm on a budget).

Runs like new now

I may be wrong but aren't the spark plugs on all the turbo's easily reached without touching the upper manifold so there's really no instructions needed except 3 things; don't use platinum plugs, use anti-seize on the lug threads and use the correct gap for the turbo (which I believe is anywhere from .032 - .038)

Cruzin, am I missing something here? One post says not to use platinum plugs and the other one says to use Champion platinum plugs. I used Bosch Platinum in my Miata. NGK's in my Goldwing and Autolite Platinum in my '56 Ford. Re: plug wires I would assume Accel makes a really good plug wire, availabe from Summit. I have 7mm on my '56 Ford and had 8mm's on my Miata. Good service.

ejstith,

The guide doesn't cover the turbo models. It was made for the 2001 cruiser with the EGR tube attached to the upper manifold. There was no turbo model till 2003 so yes the plugs can be reached without taking off the upper manifold but if you want to change the plug wires the upper manifold still has to be taken off.

The platinum plugs aren't recommended for the turbo because the turbo runs much hotter and supposedly can damage those plugs. After saying that, I know of as least one turbo owner that has run the platinum's without any harmful affects.

The Accel wires the yellow ones? If so, they're absolute garbage as are the yellow canister coils. The only good wires Accel makes are the 300+ ones. I had two sets of the yellow wires and two of their canister coils on my Barracuda. All junk. I went to the 300+ wires and an MSD Blaster coil with no problems.
