Start be reading the link I posted above "Random Misfires" . It gives you things to check.

The rust could cause and ark in the spark plug hole causing your problem. Did you clean it out making sure not to get any into the spark plug hole?

By the way, did you use die-lectric grease on the plug ends and anti-seize on the threads of the new plugs?

I've never heard of a bad coil on these cars. I do know the stock coil is more than adequate. I know people running everything from stock to 600+ whp GTs. If you have a buddy with a PT trying switching coils to see if that is the problem.

Water, hopefully not from a cracked head gasket which I'm sorry to say might be your problem which I mentioned in my first reply.

WOW. This is a convenient thread for me to learn.

On my '05 at 43K miles I had my plugs and wires replaced at the dealer. I'm now at 58K and about 2 weeks ago at idle my car started doing the 'jerking' motion almost as if it was losing idle and about to die.

Tonight, I was getting around someone, doing 60MPH (on the freeway) and just when the turbo was about to kick it, the car did 5 or 6 hard jerks. Then the check engine light flashed 4 times then went off.

I arrived home but am taking it to the dealer tomorrow. I'll keep researching on here.

Is this a common car problem in general or a common PT problem?

Read some of the other posts and find out how to read the codes that the computer set. If the engine light came on, one or more codes will be stored in the computer and it will help diagnose your problem.

After re-reading your post, it's probably too late and you've already taken it to the dealer. Good luck.

Last night I did the key turning to get the codes. The only thing I got was the 'done.' I tried it a number of times and got it over and over.

Yes, it's now in the fate of the dealer. I have Powertrain warranty left, so I am praying this is nothing major that won't be covered.

SO
the dealer said the wires went bad and messed up the plugs and got carbon stuck on them. I'm kinda pissed about that since they were the ones to replace my plugs 11k miles ago, apparently they did not replace the wires.

In addition, and so they tell me has nothing to do with the plugs, the MAP sensor is bad and now the throttle body needs cleaning - even though I just cleaned it 11K miles ago.

They quote me $600 for all that.
I'm taking it to a mechanic I've just before to get the second opinion.

Wow! $600 for things that most of us on this forum could do in about 45 minutes and less than $100 in parts (depending on how much the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor would cost.

Go to www.RaceandStreet.com and under "store" click performance and get yourself some Crane Firewires from Maggie. Go to any auto store and pick up some decent copper plugs for your turbo and buy some Throttle Body spray cleaner and to the dealer or NAPA and pick up a new MAP sensor.

Take the parts to anyone mechanically inclined and that you can trust and make a deal for installing the parts and cleaning the TB. You'll save yourself probably about $400.

The MAP is located on the upper manifold next to the overflow bottle ....(see picture below). It's easy to take off.
