The first one with the "holding the reset button down" is just a test of all the guages and some codes not needed by the consumer. The other test is what we owners need to try and diagnose any problems. You have none (done).

Do these work on all of the years? I've got a 2002 PT with the analog speedometer and dash (aside from the odometer).
Have a great week:-) Patrick. |

I don't believe they changed the procedure for the codes until the last couple of years, maybe 06 and 07 PTs.

Look right above your posting in this Tech and Performance part of the forum and your see a "sticky" (which means it will stay there forever) entitled "error codes". That's the whole list .
...or just click on this... Chrysler PT Cruiser computer codes

Hi, I just bought a used 07 Base PT with 34K miles. I am VERY pleased with car. After one week of driving however, I had my MIL light come on(picture of engine). I tried the on-off 3 times routine mentioned above and I get 6 dashes where the odometer reading was, and after 5-10 seconds, the word "done" appears. Why would it not show a code? I also put my Innova 3100 code reader on and it gives a P1273 code which in the Sticky list says Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor 1. I'm still under (barely) my 3/36 warranty so I plan to go to a dealer today. But for future reference, as my warranty will be over in 2000 miles, I want to learn all the DIY tricks I can. Can anyone explain what I'm seeing?
Thanks, Mike |

Hi Mike,
Welcome to the forum. As I stated above I think they changed the procedure for accessing the codes in the 06-07 models years so hopefully someone will come along and explain how you retrieve the codes. The "done" on the older models does mean there's no codes stored in the computer but you say you got the P1273 with the code reader ...I don't understand that either.

Update on my MIL problem. Apparently the key on 3 times routine works. The reason I got a "done" with no codes was the code was "stored" but no longer "active". My Innova code reader was way off. The stored code was for a small leak in the evaporative system (like loose gas cap). Service dept cleared the code and put a new gas cap on and checked several other places that could cause this. No charge as I have 1500 miles left on warranty. I plan to flash update my code reader and see if it can read 07 codes then. Thanks for the input Crewzin.
