Engine Light Comes On/Gas Needle Drops

I hope I am posting in the correct area, please direct me to the correct site if not...I have a 2003 PT Cruiser...on occasion when I place gas in the car...ride for some miles...the engine light comes on...when we place it on the meter to retrieve the code...it comes back as a sensor relating to the gas tank...can you help me with this?

Welcome to the forum. I moved your post to the TECH section so more people can see it.

My guess is that your not tightening the gas cap after fueling the PT. More people have a problem (including me with the wife's new KIA) with having the engine light come on after stopping for gas. Make sure you turn/click the gas cap at least three times to be sure it's on properly. If this IS the problem, the light will go out in about a day and not come back on. To get rid of the codes stored in the computer, the negative battery cable must be taken off for about 5 minutes.
