Question Airbag light ON

My 2002 has a constant airbag light ON and "dings" frequently.
Chrysler wants $800 to diagnose and fix.
Anybody know a sequence of steps to correct this?

Moved your post to the TECH section.

Here's link to a posting with the same problem. Hopefully it answers your question.

take the car to a professional, do NOT attempt to mess with airbags yourself unless youhave training.

I had the same problem on my 2002 years ago. Took it to the dealer and they fixed it under warranty, Its was a small problem like a bad sensor or something....

Thought I would add this info. to the top site for "airbag light pt cruiser" on Google.
For a few weeks now I"ve put up with the airbag light and the constant chiming. Looked all over Google for an answer and got seat belt sensor, seat sensor (there is no seat sensor in the 2004 PT) and broken wire(s).
When my wife drove the car no light came on. When I drove the light came on. I"m 20kg heavier than her.
Took the seat pan off(four bolts and numerous screws) I did that instead of removing the seat..lots easier. T( Google " PT cruiser seats install" for instructions) there are four plugs to undo to remove the harness.
Then I checked continuity on the wires wires in the harness that I removed.

Could not find any break in the wires. So, put it back together and no light, no chimes. Drove the car around for a while and jumped up and down on the seat but still no light. (just plug it all in, no need yet to put everything back together.)
Diagnosis...bad plug connection???? When I put the harness back on I notice that previous to me removing it , it had routed OVER the frame so the seat base pushed against it.
I"ll come back here now and again so if you have any questions please ask here so we can share the info. Dave
I wonder if my dealer had diagnosed a sensor fault somewhere and charged me $800 for the job??? Just wondering......

Dave

Please note this.

After all my testing and "maybe" conclusions I have definitely found the cause of the airbag light going on and off.

There were some velcroed shoulder pads on the seat belts. Took them off three days ago, reset the airbag sensor (battery neg. off for 30 sec. then reattach) and not a peep from the chirper or the light. Absolutely wrapped.

These accessories must have stopped the seat belts from retracting properly.

Life is like a box of chocolates...........
