We've had our 2006 Pt Cruiser for exactly 71 days now, and we have yet another problem! Our first problem was the shudder/stumble when the A/C was on and that seems to be fixed. Took two trips to the dealer, replacing the compressor, and then the fan module to fix, but it's fixed. That started at 28 days of ownership.
It's been running fine since then. This week we took the car into the dealer for it's first oil change. It has 22,000 miles on it. This morning we were out and the oil lamp light came on when we turned the car on, and it stayed on for the entire ride home! In the book it says if the light comes on to not drive it, but it's our only car and we couldn't walk home with the kids! We checked the oil when we got home (thinking maybe they 'forgot' to put any in) and it appears to be where it should be. There has been no oil puddles under the car, so it doesn't seem like it leaked out or anything. After 15 minutes, we turned it back on and the lamp light is off! What's going on here? Can't be coincidental that they do an oil change and the light comes on. Is there something they may have jostled to make it start acting up? We are going on vacation in 2 weeks and need a reliable car. No wonder the previous owner got rid of it with only 19,000 miles on it. Every time we have to take it in to the dealer it's a 45 minute drive and no way to get to work. Arghh. |

The oil pressure sending unit, that would have caused the light to come on if the oil was low, is located out of the way of the oil filter and oil drain so it's unlikely the mechanic did anything to disturb it during your last oil change.
![]() Sounds like the unit itself might be faulty. Looks like you might be taking it back or keep going and maybe it was just a one time happening. It's up to you. It does sound like you did pick up somebody else's problems.
