Glad you got it diagnosed and hopefully, that will be the last of your problems. Good luck.

I was reading the post and wish mine was the same problem that yours was. Mine had the same problems of overheating so I took it back to the dealership 3 different times before they fixed it. One they said it was the radiator cap that was leaking...turns out it wasn't it and then like a week later I had to take it back into the dealership because it was over heating and they said it was the thermostat and not opening up so they replaced the thermostat. Well turns out that wasn't the problem like probably not even a week later it idled rough and there was a metallic noise that occured and then on my way home from work overheated and I made my dad look at it and as I drove up the street and then it died on me and locked up so we took it back to the dealership and what happened was that my headgasket was bad and that caused my block to crack so they replaced my headgasket thermostat block and everything that comes in the block and since all that work in march nothing gone wrong with it since then *knock on wood* but yeah you're not the only one whose had problems with it glad you got a good reply and diagnosis the first time not 3 trips into the dealership for it to work

tommeyb,

Thanks for your story. That's the problem with most of today's dealerships, they don't take the time to really diagnose the problem and throw the cheapest parts at it hoping that will fix the problem. Hopefully your dealer paid for all the parts they threw at it and the rebuild of the block under whatever warranty you had.

no problem I figured if other people had the same problems like me and read the threads to see what others had wouldn't hurt to say here's my story incase it might help....and yeah the dealership paid for everything it's still under warranty till 2009 b/c mine's an '06 if they didn't I'd be out like $5,000 .... the main concern was that I was thinking it was the dealership and now it's like they only do what they need to do and that's it and other problems arise and you just bring it in and they keep looking at it until you're finally fixed. biggest draw back is that this is the closest chrysler dealership near me the other closest one looks like it's been closed down (that was where I was going to buy mine until my dad took me to Wullenwebers) so with that being closest and all that it is a draw back....where are all the mechanics that take hours to look at everything.

Most of the time it's not the mechanics, there are good ones. It's the dealership that pushes them into not spending the time needed to properly diagnose the problem. Code = part, throw part in, next customer please.

Well, my wife is happy now, she has her PT back and it is running great. No more over heating!

Sometimes there is more than one problem causing a symptom. The bottom line is if I would have flushed the cooling system as soon as I saw all of the rust in it I probably would not have just spent nearly $400 for a radiator. The cooling fan wearing out is to be expected but who's to say that the excessive heat from the clogged radiator didn't wear it out sooner than it should have?

Anyway, thanks to all for the help! Especially you Crewzin!

I can attempt to answer the above questions. Nowadays IF a auto is under warranty, CD will not pay to have a mechanic spend time really looking for the problem, they have a list of things to change to see if the problem will be fixed. That is the reason for having to return with the same problem, then they go on to the next possibility. Infuriating tho it may be, but that is the way it works.
