03 GT
about 10,ooo miles ago I installed Pepboys Ceramic Brake Pads and I love em' but since that time I have a chirp chirp noise from one front wheel as it turns but stops as soon as you apply any brake pedal it stops and starts again when the brake pedal is released. Then, as the car starts to slow I hear a single clack noise from both front until the next time the brakes are applied. The rotors were turned, the slide pins cleaned and relubed, Permatex brake squeal applied to all front pad backing plates and and all parts were cleaned of dust build up. The car stops clean and straight with no apparent problems. Anyone have any ideas? thanks |

Hooligan/Guys:
On my '03 I've had a problem (for a few weeks now) where when I am backing out of a driveway/parking spot and I turn the front wheels I ususally get a VERY LOUD squeaking noise. It won't do it if the wheels are straight though. Somtimes on one particular on ramp I use (broadly curved to the left) the sound will occasionally happen (even though the brakes are not being applied)but the squeak sounds as if whatever is causing it is making the squeak "cycle" at a faster rate. Does this sound like the problem you were having or is this something different. And when I say LOUD in parking lots, I mean it turns heads from 50 ft away. The sound is definitely coming from the drivers side front wheel. I also have the rear brakes "I've been sitting for two days and no one drove me" squeaking that goes away after two or three stops. I'm guessing that one is just rust removal. I was told this is common on PT's but not an issue. With my particular problem there is NO degredation in brake performacne. Thoughts? Tom

Whatever the sound is, get it checked out by a reliable mech. Sqealing rubbing sounds don't improve on their own. And typically will lead to more costly repairs if left un-repaired.
I ended up having to replace a hub to rather than just the bearing because I didn't deal with mine ASAP. If it's brakes & you don't fix it, you'll end up kicking yourself when you have to spend unnecesary cash on a new rotor too. |

5017 857AA 1 SHIM KIT, Brake. I did not get a invoice, but this came from a 2002 Parts CD, be aware that the number may have changed. I tried to copy the part picture, but was unable to copy and paste.
