It should. The first question though is "will it work?" If it does work as they say it should actually help with detonation too. In other words you can crank the boost higher without using better gas. I like daydreaming, maybe it's possible to have a 350+ GT which gets 40mpg....

I'm new to the forum. I am installing a homemade HHO generator in the air box (for now), as a test to see what the results are. I'm using a 5 wallplate design (-N+N-) neg on the outside neutral and positive in the middle. Running off jumper cables, it produced a good amount of gas for a small system using distilled water and KOH (potasium hydroxide) as an electrolyte. After 35 minutes of running outside the car in 95° outside ambient, the water was about 130°. No PWM yet, it's on order. Amp Meter and kill switch mounted in the left console cupholder for now. Anyone know an easy way to run wires from the engine compartment to the console?
2002 bone stock, 5 speed, 70,000 miles. I get 22 mpg w/out A/C in the city and 31 mpg w/ A/C hwy. It'll take a week or so to see if it makes a difference. Will post results. |

I believe my stereo wires go through an existing hole on the firewall. They go through right near where the brake booster is. I think it's probably a rubber plug you pull out. Unfortunately I don't know where it ends up exactly when it's in the interior. It comes out somewhere behind the dash I guess.
Haven't had a chance to build mine yet, I'm waiting on the electronics to be able to build what water4gas calls the "map enhancer." It's just a variable resistor for the MAP sensor that lets you lean the car out. From what I've read some OBII vehicles also require you to pull the 02 sensor or they just sense a lean condition and at fuel back in again, canceling any gains. Not sure how the PT's electronics will respond to MAP manipulation. Ben

I've been reading with interest this whole thread. I found a site about it and read whatever I could. Sounded like a good idea. I also took my wife's KIA in for service the other day, showed off her chromed and painted engine and the head mechanic asked why I didn't install the water (HHO) system in it, that one of the other customers had done it and is getting great gas mileage and that the IRS will actually let you claim the whole expense of making and installing the unit in your car (special IRS forum for green cars).
I was almost sold so went back to the web and looked around some more. Found a site that had a "book" telling me how to buid an HHO unit for any car and that all the parts were under $50. When I paid for the book, it turned out to be only a download of the book in adobe format. Reading thru it overwhelmed me so it's just sitting in my documents file. If someone can tell me how to transfer that adobe file to this forum (if that's possible), you can all have it for free and build your own.

i too have the water4gas book PDF. files if anyone wants it for free send me your email and i will start sending it out. it is a lot easier just to print it and read through it. i have a bare bones system now that this weekend Aug1st-4th i will be putting on my wife Sonata. they have a testimonal of one guy stating that exact car going from 26mpg to 39mpg with only the brown's gas generator. if anything thing note worthy happens i will be sure to post my results, or if i can figure out my new camera i can send video.
PS- i cant remember who it was talking about a kill switch, but just run the power through your ignition. that way if the car is not on you won't be making HHO... on the other hand if you hook it straight to the battery it will keep making gas even without the key and the next time you crank your car there is three steps you have to do 1) open your zipper 2) insert head into the seat of your pants 3) kiss your a$$ good bye =) |

The kill switch is there is you need the ignition turned on for an extended time without the engine running (repair or something). I guess you could always pull the fuse. I'm going to try it first without the MAP sensor/O2 sensor mods. I've read of some folks getting significant increases without it. The computer is smart enough to compensate. I'm tapping the intake after the MAP sensor, if that doesn't work I'll try in front. Maybe it's think I'm driving below sea level with higher O2 and lean it out. ![]() |

I'm wanting to wire mine up with a relay running off the sending unit for the oil pressure light. If there's no oil pressure it won't run, that way you never have the engine off and hydrogen being produced. I'm waiting on some check valves right now, my electronics just got shipped today.
From what I've read the HHO adds oxygen, that means that your ecu senses lean condition and adds fuel; back to square one. You need to make it think it's on top of Mt. Everest. The higher the elevation, the less the fuel. The map enhancer costs about $10 in parts. Should be interesting to see peoples results. My brother is going to try this on his carbed 83 Ramcharger. He can't adjust his fuel delivery but can adjust timing. I can't adjust timing (except for messing with the MAP which does influence timing) but can adjust fuel... Hope we end up putting tdi's to shame! ![]() Ben

Update: 4 days 100 miles and 3/4 tank still on the gauge. Drawing 8 amps cold, 12 amps hot and lots of action. I'll test liters per hour later. With the KOH in the water at 88 degrees F ambient temperature, the solution reads 150 Ohms resistance. I'll use that as a gauge to determine electrolyte levels in the future.
Issue 1: my original container split where I drilled through and put the electric leads and I lost half the water and electrolyte. I had a spare and drilled through the lid this time. Issue 2: the lid came loose on day 4. Since it's inside the airbox, the HHO is pulled into the intake anyway. Issue 3: Stainless steel wallplates from Home Depot aren't. There is corrosion starting to show up. We'll see how bad it gets. The engine seems to be running smoother, but it could be wishful thinking. I'll need about a week to go another 150 -200 miles to see if there are any MPG gains. |
