What works on PT's and what doesn't (from Kenne Bell)

I found this while searching for dyno results on PT products. It's a nice list from what appears to be some folks who did their homework. Not intended to offend anyone, just thought it was well put and seems honest.

Too bad they don't offer the mod anymore. I talked to one of their tech. guys (who used to be an engine builder for Steve Saleen!) and he said the ECU's would quit working after a while. So K.B. stopped selling the mod.

Anyway, interesting read.

Interesting read indeed. Curious as to what the Optimizer II really is. The nature of the beast was never truly mentioned other than it was basically an intercooler. Problem with the OBDII system is that Chrysler made it too smart for its own good. It is constantly relearning and reprogramming itself. This is probably the cause of the ECM failing after awhile. It just couldn't take the confusion anymore, lol.

In reality,, the NGC controller is quite amazing, now that we can reprogram it,, it blows me away how well it works. With all that is done to my car,, it is 100% streetable,, but raise the boost,,, oh la la. Chrysler set the car to perform well,,, but be super safe, almost too safe. Mine now is setup to kick butt,, and be safe.

The Optimzer II was basically a you send them your ECU, they flash it and reprogram tons of performance settings to release power in the stock engine. You also had to run a 180 degree thermostat to take advantage of the full mods. Then they send your ECU back to you and you plug it in.

It wasn't an intercooler at all, it was a completely re-programmed ECU upgrade, but was software based only (well other than the 180 thermo)

Yes, apparently it took a few months to kill the ECU's. Not sure why they couldn't find a work around for the "re-learning" thing. Unfortunately we'll never know what all those handy little settings were - if we did we could buy our own ECM and program it! KB said they won't publish the code due to legal issues. Too bad because I was willing to pay for the upgrade! I could use 17 HP....
