Default Weird Noise coming From Engine

So I'm driving my 05 Turbo convertible (that I got on May 1) and all of a sudden there's like a "thumping/sawing" noise" apparently coming from under the hood. If I accelerate, the noise gets faster. It stops when the car stops. No warning light on the dash.

I' m afraid to drive this car (for fear of causing any damage) to the dealer and am thinking I might have to have it towed.

Any idea what this could possibly be?

Stick shift? Sounds like a broken axle.

Check your motor mounts (torque struts). The rubber is very flimsy on those. If the bottom one is broken then the oil pan will get clubbed.

Well the fact that the noise increases with speed and not revs means it is not engine or transmission related.

I'd check for something simple first, like a splash shield under the car dragging and rubbing on a tire. Had work done to it lately?

Angry Re: Weird Noise coming From Engine

Just got back from the dealer. Both front hub and bearings were worn out and the front control arm brusings were torn. Everything got replaced.

Kinda sucks that I just bought this car 2 months ago and only drove 300 miles since. You would have thought that a major dealer would have inspected everything before putting the car on sale.

Good thing I purchased the extended warranty. He quoted me $700 parts and $700 labor but it only cost me the $200 deductible.

It has 41,926 miles on it. On the brake inspection comment is says that the rotor is very grooved - fairly new pads. No idea what that means.

It means that your rotors aren't giving you full stopping power and should be turned (sanded smooth) but I'd bet the pads aren't good either so you'd end up getting a full brake job, plus if the rotors are really VERY grooved, they wont' be able to be turned so ....new rotors and pads. A bunch more than your $200 deductible you just put out, and none of that is under warranty, sorry.
