Welcome to the Forum !!

What year, NA or Turbo, shall we assume it is a Stick? The more info you put into your question makes it easier to find a answer.

Will it not go in because it's grinding the gear? That would indicate something in the clutch system is not working properly. Possibly could need a new clutch, pressure plate, and bearings after 7 years.

If grinding is not the issue, it's likely not clutch related. My suspicions would jump to the shifter bushings if this is the case. Booger shifter bushings are only $20 and are available several places on the internet. I got mine on eBay.

Are we to assume it goes into all forward gears OK? In that case, I'd assume you can just push the car out of parking spaces for the time being to keep mobile.

I took it to the dealership today and they said it was the gear shift linkage cables. Said the barrons was out.I have bumper to bumper but the clause reads this isnt covered...now they want 400 bucks to fix. Is it hard to do?

Likely not the cable themselves, just the bushings on the end as aforementioned. It's $20 for the parts from Booger Racing, and not at all difficult. On the engine side, you just need to pull the air cleaner box to access the cable ends. In the passenger cabin, you'll need to pop up the center console on the floor to access them. Just need a pair of adjustable pliars to press the new ones in. Too easy. Tell them to take that $400 and shove it.
